Coaching students in career development

How do you support students through coaching?
Within Rijn IJssel, there was a need to further develop the role of the teacher as a career coach, to contribute to a learning environment that encourages students to engage in self-reflection, take ownership and connect with their development.

Co-creating a vision
In co-creation with teachers, leaders, and educational specialists, we developed a vision on career coaching that is specifically tailored to Rijn IJssel. Alongside this, we designed learning pathways that support teachers in growing into their role as career coaches.

Blended learning program: theory, practice, and reflection
These learning pathways consisted of a blended program combining e-learning, workplace learning, and group sessions. Within this program, theory, practice, and reflection on one’s professional identity were meaningfully integrated.

Coaching skills and professional identity at the core
The core of the program was to strengthen coaching skills, explore professional identity and agency, and develop a shared vision of what career coaching means in supporting students.
